When should your child get their flu vaccine?

Flu season starts in the fall, just as kids return to school, where they share crayons, snacks — and yes, germs — with a lot of other kids. Make sure your back-to-school to-do list includes a trip to your pediatrician to bring your child up to date on immunizations, including for influenza. Getting a flu shot before the end of October means your child’s immune system can learn to resist the virus before it hits your community. On-time immunization keeps our kids, their classmates, and our communities healthier. CCP has Saturday flu vaccine clinics set up in both sites for the months of September, October and November. Central Coast Pediatrics is in alignment with the American Academy of Pediatrics recommendations to continue following the previous immunization schedule that is backed by scientific based evidence.

We are very pleased to learn that the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) is also in agreement with this and is not recommending the new schedule put out by the CDC. As always, please defer to your pediatrician and the American Academy of Pediatrics for evidence based information regarding vaccines and your child's health. We are here for you.
